Turkey Gospel

Turkey Gospel by Garrett Carey and Alysia Harris
When you are all out of feathers
dust the glory and pray
quietly, young pagan, young
starlight drunken wanderer. Gaze,
head up in haughty silence
or simple humility for all that is above you,
intangible and collecting time.
Young believer, walk, but most importantly
fall and wallow in your faith like a mudbath.
Wear it like regret and then wear it like acceptance,
chameleon in your bare skin that you are,
hate the bridge you built
under your feet but walk it.
Dream carpenter,
splinter prick your tired soles
with wood rotting jealously
in the perfume of patience.

Kick the morning up from your heel
with all that dirt and let it
settle behind you, never
turn your head, never look with cobbled eyes for everything past
the blinks you wish you had the courage to muster
– be comfortable in the darkness
but do not grow cold to a fire.
Do not grow old. Do not go hungry.
Go on your tip toes, or go on your knees
but God forbid, do not go staggering.

This need, this desire, will combust
in you with wanton fervor.
Do not be consumed, do not
let it go. Swallow
the reckless, blundering luster.
Smile to thread the starlight through your teeth
and laugh at the irony. Resemble what you seek.

Seek the truth of the shortest distance
jumping out of your skin—trying to be
an untilted axis to the world’s arabesque
a lightening rod in an open field
of crooked blades of grass, amputee umbrellas
and limp handshakes.
Be as straight as an arrow for you know how to quiver.
Be aligned with every right angle and sympathetic to every fallen one.
Be a stone’s throw to the stained glass sky
and leave a mark wherever you land. Do not
be forgotten.

Do not forget me. Do not forget me.
Whisper a sandstorm and count
the tiny promises that stick to the wind.
Find your way back across the swollen, pregnant
river Styx. I’ll be waiting.

Sew me a pair of bone-made wings
I’m itching to fly on their failures.

Intelligent Design...

By Sruthi Sadhujan
One night, God had a dream.
In his dream he created a man.
Soon after, he created the sun,
And Man, just days old, with a sigh that could not be distinguished from a scream,
almost died from the beauty (that shattered his eyes,)
And one day man saw himself reflected in a pool of water,
And in his eyes, he saw astronomy,
he saw whole universes and cosmos tumbling and wheeling over each other
Every fleck of his iris became Cassiopeia and Orion,
and the stark glare of mars was chained into submission.
And as the stars thawed in his eyes and overhead,
Man cried, he inundated his ego,
Thinking that maybe he was the universe in compact.

And so he took the first bite of his apple of doom,
From the apple of his eyes, he ate fully
and from the grail of his tears, he drank deeply, replenished,
He wiped the corners of his mouth, and made himself into a deity.

Man flirted with gravitational pull and grew seraphic wings out of wax,
Waxed his vanity and left it in the trophy case,
As he flew off and attempted to play tag with the sun.
Man sat on Olympus with cheeks swollen from his Herculean ego,
when oxygen deficiency started to take over him,
And he thought to himself,
like Michelangelo had touched the divine on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel,
Maybe he too could dream beings into existence.
And so each night he slept, and each night he dreamt.

He began with a pulsing red heart,
Swimming in bright blood, pulsating like the mouth of a landed fish
Two lungs, blooming with vitality from the chest,
A mysterious liver, a hermetic pancreas,
And a constellation of arteries and veins, a universe contained in the space of a body,
All feeding the sanguine, fetal heart that was gaping like a pathetic newborn for breast milk.
Each organ spoon-fed the other, inseparable like Siamese,
Suffered claustrophobic love and separation anxiety from each other,
and a being, panting from the labor pains of simply being dreamt into existence, was born.

Drained from his efforts, man felt hollow on the side
Feeling like when had first waited for Eve in what seemed an eternity,
When God had hollowed part of him on the inside,
in taking out a rib to make him a companion.
That same feeling of emptiness took hold of him now,
As the universe around him turned in on itself,
His newly created being was blown into a million pieces of dust,
While his own fingertips were carried away on the wind,
until he could no longer touch Eve,
Who suddenly flew up in a smoke, and descended as one rib at his feet.
He stood on the barren land, sifting sand through his fingers,
Remember his origins with sudden pain
And though he sobbed at losing his companion
And though he sobbed at finally understanding the smallness of his own being,
Not even the stars had pity on him and put themselves out one by one,

Because dawn was breaking,
And God was waking from his long night of dreaming a man into existence,
And man was stretched into inexistence by the very eyelids of God,
He was hollowed by God’s waking, by more than just a rib,
But by organs and blood and entire constellations
Because for a moment, he had forgotten how to separate precipitate from solution,
arrogance from devotion.
He had forgotten how to separate divinity from humanity,

And for a moment, he had thought his footprints could to shake the ground,
uproot the Nile,
turn the world upside down,
and throttle the earth from its from its axis.
But it was all a dream, and God woke up, he had better things to do than let foolish beings run away with celestial fantasies.

New Music: Adele - Rolling In The Deep

Adele's first single off of her new album, "21," is a soulful, thumping record titled "Rolling In The Deep." It's bloody brilliant. Adele brings out those golden pipes throughout and really nails the vocal from start to finish. You have got to love the feel of the record....very 50`s/60`s

New Music Marsha Ambrosius “Far Away”

Singer Marsha Ambrosius unveils her second single “Far away” off her debut album, Late Nights & Early Mornings dropping January 4, 2011. Produced by Just Blaze, the single will also be made available on December 7th via iTunes.

New Artist Auburn

Introducing 21-year-old singer Auburn Williams, the first female artist signed to J.R. Rotem’s Beluga Heights Records (which is distributed by Warner Bros.) Over the summer, she released her first single, featuring Iyaz, “La La La” which samples ATC’s “Around The World.” The song is an irresistible slice of urban-pop ear candy that doubles as a sassy empowerment anthem.

Here`s her second single ‘All About Him‘.The song combines the sounds of RnB, Rap and Pop to offer something to the masses along with a hugely catchy hook to attract everyone else.

A Quantum Leap....

By Chloe Wayne
Some nights, I lay alone and listen to opera.
The same song over and over again, a man and a woman-
I’m not really sure what they’re saying,
but there’s something about the way her voice rises…
wraps around his like ivy creeping up a stone spiral staircase to the heavens-
I imagine her singing of space and time unwinding
in obsidian whirlpools of his eyes,
of grandfather clocks with arthritic hands struggling to inch by,
dilating time – so they can grow old together, and then older.
I know nothing of 18th-century Italian,
but my mind shapes the contours of his heartstrings behind the melody,
and I think he replies-
‘I want to be the only one who knows
what the creaking of your elbows sounds like at sunrise,
let me hold your hand
and we’ll tightrope walk the equator,
then land safely in the familiar safety of our bedsheets.’

…I don’t really know what you think of me…
can’t quite sense the heat behind your lantern smile,
so if you won’t use its flicker to guide me,
I hope you don’t mind if I inch in a little bit closer.
See, I’d like to believe that real-life love must be as simple as it is for those two lovers,
storybook ending etched lifeline deep into Father Time’s palms-
but poets are only good at reading passion in pages and song
so hopeless romantic that I may be,
I can’t seem to read your mixed signals
no matter how often I play them on repeat.
I’ve been in love twice,
and learned that love is a four-ton pendulum
that sways to the fickle eight-count of two heartbeats
only to be knocked off-balance by distance or mistrust or wild oat sowing
or all of that other bullshit
that’s made every relationship I’ve ever witnessed
dangle precariously in the balance-
love, pendulum that it is,
but I’m just looking for someone to stand still with.

You…frighten me,
you hide behind jigsaw puzzle eyes,
you…with your ribs as window blinds-
I’ve never met a flower so afraid of the sun,
come undone,
be an unraveled stem -
spill the cherry blossoms from your gut
like red wine leaking from a paper cup-
’cause I know love comes and goes like the seasons,
but it’s springtime…
this mid-April breeze is feisty,
rustling its way through our clothes a little bit inappropriately.
The sun is shining like she’s got electromagnetic mascara for rays,
and I could have sworn, this morning, she batted her eyelashes your way.
It’s a time for flirting–
heartbreak and fear were so last season,
so today, I just wanna hold your hand.
Let’s be kids again, cavalier, unafraid of anything
but our own reflections in the mirror-
we’ll pretend its prom night,
and we’re fashionably late to a red carpet of rose petals,
firefly strobe lights and a dance floor of clementines.
Let me fashion my lips as rock climbers,
and I’ll scale the ridges of your cheekbones
then lay softly in the willow hammock of your dimples.
I just want to bite into this awkward silence like an overripe peach,
and have all those nervous conversations that we’ll laugh at when we’re thirty
and you’ve memorized the freckle coordinates on my skin,
and I’ve played cartographer to you,
mapped your blue Nile veins
and that meteorite scar tissue you keep shrouded
from every stranger in your stratosphere.

I’ve circumnavigated you for months,
but there’s something empty about living weightless -
so if you see a satellite in your skyline,
it’s me— I’m tired of hovering.
Just about ready for that quantum leap
so orient me,
compass-rose kiss a bag of wind in my direction.
Have it whistle me an opera.

New Music Video: Chrisette Michele – "I’m A Star"

Grammy-winning Songstress Chrisette Michele has released the video for her first single ‘I’m A Star’. The clip is directed by Armen Djerrahian to support her new album, ‘Let Freedom Reign’, which will drop in stores on November 30th. Check it out below:

Album Review:Rihanna-”LOUD”

By Themcfan

In 5 short years, Rihanna has become some-what of a household name, scoring multiple international hits, 8 number songs, but no matter how well her singles do, it seems that she can’t translate that success into an ALBUM-selling power. her last album (Rated R) bearly made it to platinum, the album before (Good Girl Gone Bad) was her most successful album and it was only certified double platinum in the states. I know what you guys are thinking, platinum and double platinum isn’t so bad? my answer, IT IS BAD! when an artist releases 8 successful top 10 hits (3 of which got to number one), you would expect the album to have sold much more than that! now back to the original topic, a year (minus 8 days) after releasing the dark and AMAZING (IMO) Rated R, she returns with a very “happy” and colorful LOUD. do i think that Rihanna rushed to release this album? yes. do i think it was worth it? we’ll analyze that now.

S&M:

the album opens up with the rumored 3rd single, with a sing-along-chorus that goes like “i might be bad, but i’m perfectly good at it!! sex in the air, i don’t care i love the smell of it!! sticks and stones may break my bones, but chains and whips excite me” u know that this is gonna be another hit for for rihanna. top notch production, and rihanna sounds good belting the chorus on it! (yes i actually don’t get annoyed by Rihanna’s voice LOL)

What’s My Name Feat. Drake:

The album’s second single, which is now number one in the states. this song is just very fun, light, summer song! I LOVE IT! Rihanna tones down the chorus belting and just does her thing on this one. another winner for Little Miss Sunshine, and even though i didn’t like it at first, drake doesn’t dissapoint with his verse.

Cheers (Drink To That):

This was rumored to be the first single for quite some time, i can see why. this is such a feel-good song that everyone can relate to! u know when you had a LONG week and you just want the weekend to come so you can actually go out and hit the city and just have a good ‘ol time! if you ever felt that way, this song is for you!!! “cheers to the freakin weekend” ooh and the break down near the end is cute.

Fading:

Now we get to something that all rihanna’s albums have to have!!! a midtempo-stargate-sounding-break-up-songs. and guess what? I LOVE THOSE!!!!! “things just aint the same, and i’m ready for change! go on, be gone, bye bye, so long”.

Only Girl (In The World):

The album’s first single! This is such a good song!!!!! I LOVED it the moment i listened to it!!! that chorus!!! i haven’t heard rihanna sing like that before, and i just, basically, LOVE IT!!! my only objection “i want you to take it, like a theif in the night”, disturbia much?

California King Bed:

This might just be my favorite song off the album. i love how Rihanna sounds singing the verses. I love this tone of her voice. “How come when i reach out my fingers, it seems like more than distance between us” great chorus, i would LOVE to see a future release for this one!

Man Down:

this might just be the album’s dark horse! this song finds Rihanna going back to her island roots, very reggae, and the accent is on full effect!!! after hearing this song, all i gotta say is, Chris Brown better watch his back “Oh Momma Momma Momma, I Just Shot A Man Down” LOL

Raining Men Feat. Nicki Minaj:

Rihanna + Nicki Minaj = BANGER!!!! thank god it’s nothing like the original!!! nicki minaj’s part steals the show as usual, but that’s not Rihanna’s fault, it’s just something EVERY artist has to deal with when featuring Nicki Manaj.

Complicated:

Another favorite of mine from this album!! from the “why is everything with you so complicated? why do you make it hard for me to love you, oh i hate it! Cuz If You Really Wanna Be Alone I will throw My Hands Up Cuz Baby I Tried” chorus, to Rihanna’s vocal, the lyrics, the production, this song is a WINNER!

Skin:

The only song that i can’t seem to get into it. i’m sure many people would enjoy this song, but it’s just not my cup of tea, but who knows? it might be a grower.

Love The Way You Lie (Part II) Feat. Eminem:

this is probably the perfect closer to the album. this is part 2 to the worldwide hit (Love The Way You Lie). it has Rihanna turning the song into a ballad, but still keeps the hiphop chorus. for me, this is better the original! and even though i hate Eminem’s guts, I have to admit that his part was just SICK!!!! (in a good way) “Even Angels Have Their Wicked Schemes, And You Take That To New Extremes.” Side Note: they say that a deluxe edition will have a piano version of the song, I CAN’T WAIT to hear it!

Rihanna Definitely delivers with this album!!! to think about it, who wouldn’t with the team behind it, it has hit written all over it! hopefully the public will actually be buying this ALBUM not just the singles because it’s worth it. I have a feeling that this will be another Rihanna record that will get many more spins on my ipod! #GoRihanna

New Music: Jessie J- “Who you are”

Newcomer Jessie J sings her heart out on her US debut single “Who You Are”. It’s the complete opposite of her UK single “Do It Like a Dude,” as it’s a power ballad. The song is taken from Jessie’s debut LP with the same name. No release date has been set, but this is an album to look out for.

The Next Big Thing :Jessie J

It’s been months since I introduced a new artist to you all. So today I bring to you Jessie J, an Essex soul singer and songwriter, who will be dropping her debut album “Who You Are” next year under Lava/Universal Republice. She has written hit songs for Miley Cyrus “‘Party In The USA” and Chris Brown “I Need This”. Move over Christina Aguilera, Jessie has arrived. This girl has such a powerful voice, she could sing circles around Beyonce, Rihanna, Ciara – any singer out there today.

Breathless (Freewrite in 3 parts)

By Alysia Harris
I. You scare me
Into circles.
Into dimples I can’t trust.
Like a smile-automaton.

II. What if I told you, I’ve never seen soil like your soul before,
perfect for growing.
What if I told you,
Your heart was so pure it doesn’t beat;
it blooms.
I think there’s spring inside you.
But I vowed no more muses, no more dragon headed rose bushes
With beautiful faces and thorn fangs.
No more writing wishes
And farewell kisses urgent
as words in boldface.
But in less than a stanza,
You wooed me into the room, like the first cries of a lone violinist
In an empty auditorium.
Plucking imperfections.
Saying if life is a tune
Then I just want to play it better.
How on God’s green earth am I back here, in the same field
With garden tools and orchid bruise still fresh
But your fruit is still fresher.
Believing in resurrection- that life rises from dirt.
Despite all the hurt,
I still know harvest when I see it.

III. I used to be a statue, transfixed stone
Staring at the pretty boy with snakes in his hair.
Come winter, when my skin turns to marble
You can still see his fingerprints there-
fissures and cracks
His handiwork.
But like I said before…
You garden you.
Tender farmer, unharden.
This pile of bricks. You are building me into butterfly hive.
Honey shrine. Stomach can’t sit still and stew no more.
Gotta break free.
Belly got wings. The heights are in my bowels.
Feeding me a smattering of stars.
Every constellation, I mean conversation with you
is like the dropping of bread crumbs-
The littlest bit draws the whole heaven.
So don’t be an angel quoting scripture one minute
And the next be a vulture talking with your mouth full.
Don’t follow me like a guardian and then follow me like a scavenger
I’ve been a skeleton before.
Please don’t scare me.
Be a laughing field of jasmine, opening my night.
Be gentle, be light, be feather, and float.
Can’t fly.
Only fall.
All I got is lungs
with air in them.
Don’t rob me
yet.

FashionBish:Brandy Graces Cover Of Upscale Magazin

Brandy opens up about album failure, the car accident and her new album.

“People call me a murderer, they taunt me and send pictures of cars that are basically annihilated. Every report has stated that I was not at fault. People still don’t care” she says frustratingly. The good news is, Brandy is rising above it to concentrate on the new album. Hip Hop producer Bangladesh says fans should expect an organic sound from the upcoming opus. “Well because she’s been away so long. I guess people’s attention spans are short now, and she comes from an era where music was more organic and everybody had their own sound, people were doing different things and albums were selling”, Bangladesh tells Singersroom.

He continues: “So, we’re just trying to re-invent or recreate the sound and mesh the two together. What I do and what she does, I think will be up-to-date…there’s something about her tone and her vocal skills…that [people that] can really sing love her. I always wanted to work with her and she reached out to me so we’re going to make it happen”

Starfish...

By Lauren Yates
Make worlds with me. My hands have grown lazy, and these potential worlds crave the touch of someone foreign.

I’m not satisfied, and I won’t be until you do whatever I ask. Mold my creation. The corners are uneven and yellow and cold. Take in the smell of Sunday school leisure. Taste the saltiness of my skin. It is no different from clear crystals on goldfish crackers swimming in paper cups. Napkins do no good here. There is nothing to wipe, nothing to fall into your lap, except for everything you never expected. Isn’t it wonderful that our expectations are not causes; they are foolishness in retrospect. Look back with me. Look back to why you are the way you are. You never would have called it that. You might have called it your past, your memories, the things you couldn’t control. What you’d fast forward to get to the good parts. Stop worrying so much. Take everything in, let your feet dangle without fear of castration. Real men don’t have to touch the floor.

Adele Reveals “21″ Album Cover…

UK songstress Adele is planning to return early next year with her highly anticipated second album titled “21″, which will be led by the Paul Epworth produced track “Rolling In The Deep”. The singer described the track as a “dark bluesy gospel disco tune.”

“I’m very excited, nervous, eager, anxious but chuffed to announce my new album,” Adele states, “It’s taken a while and it knocked me for six when writing it. It’s different from “19″, it’s about the same things but in a different light. I deal with things differently now. I’m more patient, more honest, more forgiving and more aware of my own flaws, habits and principles. Something that comes with age I think. So fittingly this record is called “21.” The whole reason I called my first album “19″ was about cataloging what happened to me then and who I was then, like a photo album you see the progression and changes in a person throughout the years.”-Adele

The album is due on January 24th in the UK and February 22nd in the US/Canada.

Anchored...

By Melissa Pavri
If miles were alive he would tell me to run. To get lost in my own breath and never look back. He would say you with the anchored eyes there is blue beyond the silkscreen of a life you hide behind.

I would say I have tried to cup the ocean in my hands but a tempest told me I could not keep her. Told me the eye of the storm does not tire and the wind will bend you if you forget your arms are sails. I once thought my stomach was a compass. Believed in the finite of direction and the salt in my skin. Thought they would guide me home or at least to a place I had been. But this maiden voyage has rocked the boat of my being. I know myself like a mermaid knows earth. Like a fish knows flight. I know that the ocean promises nothing but holds everything. Something like a heart. If I could I would wear the seabed on the palm of my hand but sometimes it is better to get lost for awhile. Better to believe in journey than in treasure. In the pearl of possibility that sits on our tongues and begs us not to swallow. The rush of realism can only make you silent if you do not fight it. I am lucky. I know that friends are like currents and sometimes you have to let them carry you.
